The Orbital Period of the Ultracompact Low-mass X-ray Binary 4u 1543–624
We report the discovery of the orbital period of the ultracompact low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) 4U 1543−624 using time-resolved optical photometry taken with the 6.5-m Clay (Magellan II) telescope in Chile. The light curve in the Sloan r band clearly shows a periodic, sinusoidal modulation at 18.2±0.1 min with a fractional semiamplitude of 8%, which we identify as the binary period. This is the ...
متن کاملSuper - orbital Period in the High Mass X - ray Binary 2 S 0114 + 650
We report the detection of a stable super-orbital period in the high-mass X-ray binary 2S 0114+650. Analyses of data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) All-Sky Monitor (ASM) from 1996 January 5 to 2004 August 25 reveal a super-orbital period of 30.7 ± 0.1 d, in addition to confirming the previously reported neutron star spin period of 2.7 h and the binary orbital period of 11.6 d. It i...
متن کاملDiscovery of the X - ray transient SAXJ 1808 . 4 - 3658 , a likely low - mass X - ray binary
We report the discovery of a fairly bright transient during observations with the Wide Field Cameras on board the BeppoSAX satellite in September 1996. It was detected at a peak intensity of 0.1 Crab (2 to 10 keV) and lasted between 6 and 40 days above a detection threshold of 2 mCrab. Two very bright type I X-ray bursts were detected from this transient in the same observations. These almost c...
متن کاملKinematical Studies of the Low Mass X - Ray Binary
We present simultaneous high-resolution optical spectroscopy and X-ray data of the X-ray binary system GRMus (XB 1254–690), obtained over a full range of orbital phases. The X-ray observations are used to re-establish the orbital ephemeris for this source. The optical data includes the first spectroscopic detection of the donor star in this system, through the use of the Doppler Tomography tech...
